Questions
How many miners can a 10 MW site run?
Roughly the site's power, times the share that reaches the miners, divided by each miner's power draw. With 90% of 10 MW going to miners and a 3.5 kW machine, that is about 2,570 units. Air-cooled sites lose more to cooling than hydro or immersion sites.
What does it cost to build out a mining site?
Containers or buildings, transformers, switchgear and cabling typically cost $100 to $300 per kW on a powered site, and close to nothing on an equipped facility. The miners themselves are usually the largest cost.
Why does the payback depend on the halving?
About 97% of Bitcoin miners' revenue today is the block subsidy. When it halves (around April 2028), revenue per machine roughly halves overnight unless the coin price rises to compensate, so a site should pay back well before then or plan for it.
Are hosting and staff costs included?
No. The calculator covers power, the pool fee and the up-front cost. For a hosted setup, use the hosting provider's all-in rate as the power price and set build-out and site price to 0.
