Questions

Can you mine Bitcoin with solar panels?

Yes. Miners can run whenever the panels produce, and they can be switched off instantly, so they use midday surplus well. Without batteries or grid power, though, miners only run part of the day, so each machine earns less and pays back slower.

How many solar panels does one miner need?

A 3.5 kW miner running 24 hours uses about 84 kWh a day. With 5 sun hours a day and 20% losses, that takes about 21 kW of panels, roughly 40 to 50 modern panels, plus batteries to run through the night.

What does solar power cost per kWh?

The calculator spreads the install cost over the system's life and adds upkeep, then divides by the energy the miners actually use. Large ground-mounted arrays in sunny places often come to 3 to 5 cents per kWh.

Where do the sun hours come from?

They are approximate yearly averages for each place, meant for a first look. Use a solar survey of your exact site before investing.
