Aleo is a layer-1 blockchain for private applications, with mainnet live since September 2024. Programs run off-chain and post zero-knowledge proofs to the chain; provers earn ALEO for producing those proofs.

A privacy chain where mining (proving) means producing zero-knowledge proofs, on GPUs and dedicated zkSNARK ASICs.

Questions

Mining this coin: FAQ

Is Aleo mining profitable right now?

At 5¢/kWh the most profitable Aleo miner today, the IceRiver ALEO AE3, earns about $18.82 a day and burns $4.08 of electricity, leaving about $14.74 a day. 6 of 13 zkSNARK miners we track are profitable at that price. Set your own power price above and the whole page recalculates.

What is the best miner for Aleo?

Ranked by profit per day at 5¢/kWh: IceRiver ALEO AE3 ($14.74/day, 2 GH/s at 3,400 W), IceRiver ALEO AE2 ($5.22/day, 720 MH/s at 1,300 W), IceRiver ALEO AE1 Lite ($2.22/day, 300 MH/s at 500 W). The most efficient machine we track is the IceRiver ALEO AE1 Lite at 1.67 J/MH; cheap power favours raw hashrate, expensive power favours efficiency, so the order changes with your price.

At what electricity price does Aleo mining stop paying?

At today's price and difficulty the IceRiver ALEO AE3 breaks even at about 23¢ per kWh: above that it costs more to run than it earns. Pool fees (usually 1-4%), cooling and any hosting margin come on top, so plan with a buffer. Of the 13 machines we track, 13 are in profit at 3¢/kWh, 6 at 6¢ and 5 at 10¢, which is why miners chase cheap power.

How long does an Aleo miner take to pay for itself?

The fastest payback at 5¢/kWh is the IceRiver ALEO AE3: about $4,899 for the machine, $14.74 profit a day, so roughly 11 months if price and difficulty stayed where they are today. In practice difficulty usually rises as new machines ship, so real payback is longer; a falling coin price stretches it further, a rally shortens it.

How much ALEO does one miner make per day?

The IceRiver ALEO AE3, at 2 GH/s, mines about 363.2 ALEO a day today, worth $18.82. That is 0.040% of the network's 4.98 TH/s. The whole network mints about 635,747 ALEO a day ($32,939), and every miner earns its share of hashrate.

Should I mine Aleo solo or in a pool?

On its own, one IceRiver ALEO AE3 would find an Aleo block about once every 10 hours on average, and luck can stretch that a long way. With blocks this frequent, even a single machine gets regular rewards; pools still smooth the payouts. FPPS and PPS+ pools pay a fixed amount per share (fees often 2-4%), PPLNS pools pay out only when the pool finds a block (often 0-2%, but lumpier).

How do Aleo's block rewards and supply work?

Right now each block pays about 105.5 ALEO including fees, with a block every 14 seconds on average, about 635,747 ALEO a day. About 514.85 million ALEO exist today and there is no hard cap.

What hardware mines zkSNARK, and what matters when buying?

Aleo has no classic hashing: provers earn ALEO by producing zero-knowledge proofs for the network's puzzle (proof of succinct work), so the work is heavy number crunching on GPUs and dedicated proving ASICs. The chain itself is secured by staking validators; provers only earn the puzzle rewards. We track 13 zkSNARK machines; judge them by J/MH (efficiency) against your power price, then by price per MH, cooling type and the warranty and repair options where you will run them.

What does a 1 MW Aleo mining site earn?

One megawatt of power runs about 294 IceRiver ALEO AE3 units. At 5¢/kWh that is roughly $131,740 a month in profit before pool fees, cooling overhead and staff, for about $1.44M of machines. That fleet would add about 12% to the network's hashrate, so once difficulty catches up every machine earns roughly that much less. Site profit is very sensitive to the power price: every 1¢/kWh costs about $7,296 a month at one megawatt. CryptoSites.io lists powered land, container farms and hosting with the power price on every listing.

How do I start mining Aleo?

Pick a machine for your power price (see the table above), then sort out power and cooling: most ASICs need 200-277 V at 10-30 A each, hydro models usually 380-415 V three-phase and a cooling loop, and air-cooled units are too loud for a home. Set up an Aleo wallet, point the machine at a pool, and watch temperatures in the first days. If you don't have cheap power and space, hosting is the usual route: a host runs the machine for an all-in price per kWh. CryptoSites.io lists both powered sites and hosting.
